Upata monarch in Ahaoda east local government area of Rivers State His Royal Majesty Felix Otuwarikpo has flagged off the cultural carnival to celebrate and immortalize the late Eze Upata the first Eze Williams Onugodiji. 


The Nye-Udu Upata who during the flag off also lit the torch for the first Eze noting that their late father Eze Williams contributed a lot to the growth and development of Upata kingdom adding that the program will continue yearly in honor of him. 


He disclosed that the torch would be handed over to the chairman of the Upata traditional council who will hand it over to  paramount rulers where it will be passed on to further signify peace and unity of purpose in line with the dreams of their fore fathers. 


Upata monarch said" Our late father contributed a lot to the growth and development of Upata kingdom, and he shouldn't be forgotten, and so as a grandson we have to honor him, he added".


He also said " We are flagging off the cultural carnival to celebrate our father, which is a very good moment for the people of Upata ".


His Royal Majesty Otuwarikpo also installed eighteen chiefs in line with the kingdom's Constitution as he charged them with the duties of ensuring development, peace and proper presentation of the kingdom globally. 

He noted that the installed chiefs were profiled and properly screened adding that he believes they will render quality service. 


On their part, the newly installed chiefs promised to carry out their duties legally in ensuring not just peace and unity but development of the areas, they also pledged their full support to the vision of his Majesty Felix Otuwarikpo.

NRM reports that the 21 communities in Upata kingdom will from Monday 2nd of December till 27th of December pass the torch to every house hold where it will be returned to the ancestral home, while the 28th December will be the celebration proper.
