TRADITIONAL RULERS SET-UP COMMITTEE TO RESOLVE POLITICAL CRISIS IN RIVERS STATE

The Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers has inaugurated a nine-member committee to mediate the ongoing political crisis involving the State Assembly, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and Governor Siminalayi Fubara. The initiative aims to restore calm and foster sustainable solutions to the escalating tensions.

The committee is chaired by His Majesty Suanu Baridam, with His Majesty Eze Nwachukwu Nnam Obi serving as co-chair. Its members include prominent traditional leaders such as Eze Uchechukwu Isaiah-Elikwu, Eze Leslie Eke, Eze Samuel Amaechi, Eze Felix Otuwarikpo, Eze Onyekachi Amaonwu, King Agolia Aboko, and Eze Nwankwo Nwankwo. Darlington Owirwa has been appointed as the committee secretary.

According to Eze Chike Amadi Worlu-Wodo, Chairman of the Council, the panel will engage all relevant stakeholders and work towards finding a peaceful and lasting resolution to the crisis. “Our goal is to bring all parties together and proffer solutions that will ensure enduring peace in Rivers State,” Worlu-Wodo said.

The Council also appealed to the public, including social media users, to exercise restraint in their comments and avoid actions that could inflame the situation. “We urge citizens to refrain from any acts that could lead to a breach of peace,” the statement added, highlighting the sensitivity of the current political climate.

The formation of the committee underscores the continued role of traditional institutions in conflict resolution and peacebuilding in Rivers State, with hopes that dialogue mediated by respected leaders will prevent further escalation of tensions.
