Rivers LG poll: Atiku throws his weight behind Fubara

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has thrown his weight behind Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, over the proposed Saturday’s local government election in the state.

Atiku said that the election stands as a beacon of hope, offering renewed vigour to constitutional democracy.

The statement comes amidst an ongoing political crisis in Rivers State over the scheduled Saturday local government election.

In a statement issued via his X handle on Friday, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential candidate in the last general election said the election presents an opportunity to uphold the Supreme Court’s ruling on local government autonomy.

Atiku also commended Fubara for what he described as courageous leadership in ensuring local government elections are held in Rivers State.
