Rivers State governor, Sim Fubara, on Sunday in Port Harcourt renders apologies to those he may have offended during the course of the just concluded local government elections, in Rivers State, holding that with all that has occured, he remains a PDP.
Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of the 23 local government elected on Saturday across the state, 22 from the APP and one from the AA-Fubara said he portrayed such actions because “desperate moments required desperate actions.” He said those he may have offended with his utterances and actions should forgive him.
Specifically, he said “I know why the chairman of the PDP governors forum is here. He wants to be sure that I am still in the PDP. Don’t worry, I am still a member of the PDP.”
The governor urged the newly elected chairmen to ensure that they worked for the interest of their people because, according to him, “that is the structure. When you serve the people well, that is the structure,” an apparent reference to what the FCT Minister used to talk about, as reason for their quarrel.
Fubara said he would be on the watch to ensure that they work well for the people as they could not afford to fail, considering the battle they had to fight to enthrone the people’s will.
He said with the conclusion of the local government election, the battle to free the state had been fought and won by the people.
The governor also appreciated God, saying if God were not with him, it would have been difficult to fight and win. He was grateful to the president, Bola Tinubu for giving him all the needed support while the battle lasted.
According to him, if not for the support and cooperation of the president, those who were fighting him would have consumed him.
He also appreciated the people of Rivers State for standing by him while the battle lasted.
