Upata Monarch Urges Stronger Policing, Calls for Tactical Unit in Ahoada East
The traditional ruler of Úpátá Kingdom in Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers State has challenged the newly posted Divisional Police Officer (DPO) to strengthen security operations and deepen collaboration with the community.
His Majesty, Dr. Felix Enene Otuwarikpo, Ny’údū Úpátá III, made the call when CSP Olaoye Seun Timothy paid him a courtesy visit at the royal palace in Edeoha.
During the meeting, the monarch stressed the need for improved patrols and the establishment of a Tactical Unit within Úpátáland to curb criminal activities, particularly along the Ahoada-Abua Road.
In Úpátá Kingdom, “issues of information sharing remains strategic to us. We have a mechanism for intelligence collation and management. We'll give you the needed cooperation and support for you to succeed,” Ny’údū Otuwarikpo assured.
He added, “police is central to all peace efforts we have put in place in our communities. But you need to deploy regular patrol teams along Ahoada and Abua road. There's need for a Tactical Unit to be stationed within Úpátá Kingdom.”
Reaffirming his commitment to the safety of his domain, the monarch declared: “My primary responsibility is to defend Úpátáland. This, I have vowed to do. For me and my people, we'll provide you with all necessary support. We are glad you are posted to Ahoada East, and it's coming at this time our people are working together for development. Úpátá Kingdom is peaceful.”
Responding, CSP Timothy said his visit was to seek the royal father’s support and blessings as he settles into his new role. He pledged that he and his officers would carry out their duties without fear or favour.
He also expressed readiness to collaborate with community-based security groups, noting, “local vigilante. They're part of the success of policing. Truly, we are ready to serve the cause of peace.”
The engagement signals renewed efforts to strengthen ties between traditional institutions and security agencies in Ahoada East as stakeholders push for sustained peace and stability.
