Anti-Tunji-Ojo Protests Plot To Undermine Tinubu’s Re-Election - Nwauju

Rivers State APC chieftain, Darlington Nwauju, has accused organisers of two February protests against Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, Minister of Interior, of attempting to sabotage President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid.
Nwauju said the timing of the protests coinciding with ongoing Federal High Court cases scrutinizing Tunji-Ojo’s WAEC and NYSC credentials reveals a lack of confidence in the judicial process by those behind the suits.
“These demonstrations are meant to mislead the public, pressure judges, and continue political blackmail against what I consider Nigeria’s best-performing minister,” Nwauju said.
He highlighted Tunji-Ojo’s achievements since taking office on August 21, 2023, pointing to sweeping reforms across paramilitary agencies, including the Immigration Service, Correctional Services, Civil Defence, and Fire Service.
“No patriotic Nigerian would demand the removal of a high-performing official unless motivated by an agenda to reverse government gains and undermine the president’s re-election prospects,” Nwauju added.
He stressed that all Ministry records are open to public scrutiny and noted that National Assembly oversight committees have commended the Ministry’s performance, including exceeding federal revenue projections in the last two fiscal years.
Major reforms under Tunji-Ojo include streamlining passport services, modernizing Correctional Services, renovating fire stations, strengthening Civil Defence’s internal security role, and promoting over 75,200 paramilitary personnel within two years achievements Nwauju described as evidence of innovative leadership and transformative impact.
