Stakeholders in Obio\Akpor local government area of Rivers State have issued a joint appeal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, urging him to concentrate on national responsibilities and refrain from instigating unrest in the state.

In a collective statement endorsed by seventeen ward leaders, the group expressed disapproval of the ongoing attacks and turmoil within the state. They pledged their commitment to collaborate with the state government, emphasizing the importance of collective efforts to achieve developmental objectives that transcend personal conflicts.

Chijioke Ihunwo, the Rivers State Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, delivered the statement, urging Minister Wike to permit Governor Siminilayi Fubara to focus on fulfilling his mandate. Ihunwo asserted that Governor Fubara has demonstrated commitment to the welfare of the people of Rivers State and Obio\Akpor since assuming office.

Former Obio\Akpor Chairman, Solomon Eke, reminded the ex-governor that Ikwerre has held leadership for sixteen years, encouraging him to support the rotation of leadership among different tribes. Eke highlighted that this rotation aligns with the explicit decisions of traditional rulers and women in the local government.

Notably, the meeting, which saw the participation of over a hundred members from diverse groups, concluded with unanimous agreement on the resolutions presented.
