Fear Grips Omoku Residents, following Youth Leader Abduction.

Residents of Omoku, headquarters of Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State, were thrown into panic on Thursday after armed men abducted the President of the Omoku Youth Federation in a brazen daylight operation that left one person feared dead.

The incident occurred along Off Palace Road when the assailants, who reportedly arrived in a black vehicle, stormed the youth leader’s place of business and opened fire without warning.

Witnesses said the sudden gunshots sent traders and passersby scrambling for safety as the attackers carried out their operation.

In the process, the victim’s aide-de-camp was reportedly shot dead, while another individual sustained gunshot wounds and was rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment. Amid the chaos, the youth leader was forcefully taken away by the gunmen, who fled the scene immediately.

The attack sparked widespread fear across the community, forcing shops to shut down abruptly as residents fled the area. Many described the incident as shocking, given its location and timing, raising renewed concerns about security in the town.

Security agencies were promptly alerted, and sources said efforts are underway to track down the perpetrators and secure the release of the abducted youth leader. However, as of the time of filing this report, the police had yet to issue an official statement on the incident.

Meanwhile, community members have appealed to security authorities to intensify patrols and take decisive action to restore calm, as uncertainty continues to hang over Omoku following the violent attack.
