FARMERS IN TAI LOCAL GOVERNMENT PROTEST COMMENCEMENT OF OIL DIVERSTMENT PROCESS.
A farmer and a resident of Korokoro in Tai local government area of Rivers state, LEZINA NTEPTEP, says oil multinational company, Shell divestment process must be put on a hold untill their polluted farmland is being cleaned up.
She said it will be an insensitive act on the part of the Federal and State government to allow shell leave the country without looking for how to address the longstanding social injustices and environmental pollution inflicted upon their communities and their farmland which is their only means of survival.
NTEPTEP in an interview with NRM added that they must be involved in any divestment process just as she insisted on a fair compensation and concrete remediation of her polluted farmland.
