Rivers Group Demands Probe of Wike’s Eight-Year Tenure, Gives Governor Fubara Seven-Day Deadline

A socio-political organisation, the Rivers Liberation Movement (RLM), has issued a seven-day ultimatum to Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, urging him to initiate an independent investigation into the eight-year administration of former governor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

The group made the demand at a press briefing in Port Harcourt, calling for a comprehensive and transparent probe covering the period between 2015 and 2023. According to the RLM, the proposed inquiry should involve not only the Rivers State Government but also relevant federal anti-corruption, financial and regulatory agencies.

Speaking on behalf of the group, its Director-General, Randolph Iwo-Brown, said the call was driven by the public’s right to accountability and responsible governance, not by political rivalry or personal animosity.

“This demand is anchored on the constitutional right of the people of Rivers State to know how public resources were managed during that period,” Iwo-Brown said. “Accountability is not witch-hunting; it is a democratic obligation.”

He explained that the proposed probe should focus on total revenues accrued to the state during the eight years, including federal allocations, internally generated revenue, loans, bonds, derivation funds and other statutory inflows. The group also wants a detailed review of projects executed under the administration, including their approved costs, actual expenditures and current valuations.

The movement further called for independent value-for-money audits, especially on major infrastructure projects, insisting that findings should be made public to enhance trust and transparency.

Iwo-Brown warned that failure by Governor Fubara and relevant federal agencies to act within the stipulated timeframe would compel the group to explore other lawful means to press its demands. He maintained that a thorough audit of past governance would strengthen public confidence and reinforce democratic accountability in Rivers State.
