The Nigeria police force in a press release clarifies allegations leveled against the office of Inspector-General of police and the Nigeria police force.
The press release revealed that there is a standing court order restricting the NPF from getting involved directly, in the election process.
Additionally, the press release also points that the police officers from the command operation department deployed at the office of Rivers State Independent Electoral commission RIEC were with the sole mandate of providing overnight security and preventing attack on the facility, stating that the allegations of blocking RIEC was false.
It further said that "threatening to shed blood and to burn down the state because of local government elections is not acceptable to us" considering that the Nigeria police force is obliged to protecting lives and properties and are committed to joining force with other security agencies to ensure decorum in the state.
In the meantime, IGP has ordered increased security throughout Rivers State and calls on the citizens to go about their lawful businesses ensuring peace and safety of citizens during the election process.
