Ibadan Court Ruling: Kabiru Turaki-Led PDP Confirms Judgment, Heads to Appeal
The Kabiru Turaki–led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has acknowledged the judgment delivered on Monday by the Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan, even as it signalled a fresh legal battle over the party’s internal leadership dispute.
Reacting to the ruling, the faction said the court declined to grant the order of mandamus it sought, a decision it attributed to the judge’s position that granting such relief would amount to sitting in appeal over judgments of courts of coordinate jurisdiction.
In a statement issued shortly after the verdict, the faction’s National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, confirmed that legal advisers have already been instructed to challenge the decision.
“They have accordingly briefed their lawyers to immediately file an appeal and to take all further legal steps necessary to advance their arguments and firmly protect their position on the matter,” the statement read.
The group insisted that the ruling does not invalidate its claim to leadership, stressing that the Kabiru Turaki–led PDP, which emerged from the Ibadan Convention, remains lawful and operational pending a final decision by the appellate courts.
According to the statement, the faction remains confident that higher courts will provide what it described as an authoritative resolution to the dispute.
While urging members across the country to remain calm, the leadership dismissed speculations of a setback, insisting there was “absolutely no cause for alarm.”
The statement added that the rebirth movement within the PDP remains on track and called on supporters to stay committed as the legal process continues.
