Abducted Omoku Youth Leader Found Dead as Police Launch Manhunt for Killers
Barely a day after gunmen abducted the President of the Omoku Youth Federation, Comrade Ifeanyi Azuazu, his lifeless body has been discovered in a forest on the outskirts of the town, deepening grief and tension in Omoku, headquarters of Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The body of the youth leader was found in Elieta Forest by operatives of the Omoku Security Planning and Advisory Committee (OSPAC), marking a tragic end to a case that had sparked widespread concern since his abduction on Thursday, February 5, 2026.
Azuazu was earlier seized during a violent attack on a drinking bar located along Ogolo Street, Palace Road, Omoku. During the raid, the assailants, suspected to be cultists, opened fire, killing Chigozie Oluwu, later identified as the security aide to the youth leader.
Eyewitnesses had reported that the attackers arrived suddenly, shot Oluwu at close range, and forcefully took Azuazu, popularly known as “Snoop,” away in their vehicle. His disappearance triggered panic and an intensive search by security operatives and local vigilantes.
Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Rivers State Police Command, CSP Grace Iringe-Koko, said the command has recovered the corpse of the abducted youth leader and linked the killing to cult-related violence.
She confirmed “the killing of Chigozie Oluwu and the abduction, beheading and recovery of the corpse of Omoku Youth President, Ifeanyi Azuazu,” noting that the incident is being treated with utmost seriousness.
According to the police spokesperson, the Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, has ordered a full-scale investigation into the incident, with directives to identify and arrest all those involved.
The gruesome killing has thrown Omoku into mourning, with residents and youth groups calling for swift justice and stronger security measures to curb cult-related violence in the area.
